I bought a rotary phone that works very well. However, I would take to buy a cheap machine. But I'm not sure how to connect an answering machine to an old rotary phone connected.

It connects as a sort of touch-tone phone. The input goes through the machine first reaction. Then connect the phone to the protruding part of the machine.
